FDA approval is reserved for drugs designed to diagnose, treat or prevent a disease or condition. Both prescription veterinary and human drugs must be FDA approved. 

Under US Law, dietary supplements like Nápreva are a sub-category of food called dietary supplements, defined as products that support and maintain the normal structure and function of the body. The US Food and Drug Administration regulates, but does not approve, dietary supplements. In fact, there are no FDA approved supplements.

Though laws prohibit supplement makers from making therapeutic claims, many dietary supplements have proven to have real benefits that are backed by modern scientific research and decades of use by people and animals.

Prescriptions are not required for dietary supplements, but many doctors in fact prescribe supplements like omega 3 fatty acids to reduce soft tissue damage and lower triglycerides to help prevent heart disease, calcium to support bone health and glucosamine with chondroitin sulfate for joint health.

Truth? Although most do not, a few supplement makers do conduct clinical trials just like those conducted with FDA-approved drugs so they can make and support claims. Since the FDA approval process is tricky for them, they do it to maintain the highest possible standards for their products, and to do their best to serve customers whose health depends on them.

The tricky part is that almost all dietary supplements are not patentable like drugs. Truly natural, organic supplements are considered to be in the public domain or common knowledge, preventing them from being patented. As a result, a supplement maker can spend millions to conduct rigorous studies and human clinical trials only to have dozens of others leverage that research to compete with similar, often inferior products. 

Although Nápreva is not regulated and FDA-approved like a prescription drug, we make every effort to comply with the same rigorous standards applied to drugs for the safety of our products. Not all supplement makers do that.

All our ingredients are FDA Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS). While that doesn’t replace clinical testing for safety and efficacy, it does help to ensure that products are safe. All ingredients are used in far lower concentrations than in many studies to examine possible medical uses and to ensure that there are no toxic reactions.

We continue our research to understand potential therapeutic benefits, drug interactions and safety.

Finally, we have over a decade of field experience with hundreds of customers who’ve used Nápreva and reported positive results. But most importantly, there have been no reported reactions or dangers using the time-tested Nápreva formula.

Nápreva may not be FDA approved, but the standards required to be FDA approved are well known. It shouldn’t take a government agency to ensure that responsible companies take the necessary steps to be sure customers are safe and have the greatest potential to experience beneficial results.
